Huh. Seems like I involuntarily took a short Easter vacation from blogging there. Anyway. With Parker Lewis‘ fantastic new single Över Kilsbergen out, a free May 5 gig at Södra Bar in Stockholm around the corner, the promise of a new Swedish-sung Parker Lewis album out in September and the ongoing springtime it’s time to reminisce of one awesome song from one of Sweden’s most underrated and underappreciated pop artists.

Parker Lewis have more or less been under the radar, releasing his splendid eponymous English-sung debut album on now defunct tiny label Mad For It for free download in 2009, but his output has always been sheer indie pop bliss in the same league as my favourite: Jens Lekman. One of his best songs, Hjältar, puts an indie-90′s-sounding-disco vibe on a brilliant pop song on the subject of ”you and me against the crazy, depressing world, babe”. Hjältar means Heroes in Swedish and towards the end of the song Parker Lewis sings (in Swedish, though): ”And the road is full of broken heroes / Burning their last chance”. Regardless of how his career goes Parker Lewis will always be one of those heroes burning out rather than fading away. To quote JD from Scrubs: ”I guess to me, he’ll always be a hero.
