Their two first albums might be nice enough, especially Underachievers Please Try Harder is an underestimated indie pop gem of an album. But it was with the help of Jaari Haapalainen that Camera Obscura took off and soared into absolute pop bliss on their two latest albums. You can’t go wrong with one of his gorgeous, swoon-inducing string arrangements.
With spring coming, feelings burst out like flowers from seeds and no better way to soundtrack this than with Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken. Elegantly opened as a dirge with a mood-setting organ the track unravels itself like as good a storm as any indie pop song have sounded. Feelings swirl and Tracyanne Campbell is so caught up in it all she can exclaim in the overpowering chorus is: ”Hey Lloyd, I’m ready to be heartbroken / ‘Cause I can’t see further than my own nose at the moment”.
This is one of those songs that spurs my tendency to repeatedly fall in love with falling in love. I just never learn. Damn you, Camera Obscura.

Or watch the nonsense music video below!

”nonsense music video”??? well I guess that you have to open a little bit more your mind. The meaning of those ”nonsense” images and the choreographies on the video are quite easy to understand! c’mon man, make an effort on that.
I’m sorry but to me it’s nonsense because it makes no sense that Camera Obscura wouldn’t play to this song’s immense strengths. Instead we’re treated to a people dancing in a campy style through 60′s pop art scenery, which I don’t really care for at all in relation to the song’s heartbreaking lyrics. The only thing to make up for it is Tracyanne’s somber face.
