From Twin Sister to Twin Shadow. By the way, before I go on, my OCD asks me why they haven’t exchanged remixes. No idea. Anyway, the spring is here and the snow has finally melted, even in Sweden, thank God. Still, one thing you shouldn’t have forgotten by now if you heard it last year, is Twin Shadow’s dark and moody but splendid debut album Forget and especially it’s highlight Castles In The Snow.
The song is under three minutes long but catches you immediately with the two first sentences of the chorus that opens it: ”You’re my favourite daydream. I’m your famous nightmare.” It’s emotionally heavy stuff and, utilizing sounds associated with 80s new wave, Brooklynite George Lewis Jr. creates something new much more somber that sounds ambivalent about breaking up with something from the past and… forget. And in what feels like the shortest three minute pop song ever and especially with the help of the remaining three sentences of the chorus he paints a daunting and chilling picture of huge, echoing, lonely castles in the snow: ”Everything I see looks like gold / Everything I touch goes cold / Castles in the snow”.
