17-year-old David from LA has just started producing his own tracks after being influenced from the likes of Daft Punk, Leonardus, Le Babar, The Disko Starz and Thony Ritz. Under the moniker The Nite he is a vital part of the wave of new, fresh, young talent wishing to revive the glory days of disco house and French touch. The Nite has only existed on myspace for a mere 26 days but he’s already self-released one EP and one mini EP. Compared to Leonardus, The Nite focuses more on short, nightly, classic soul/r’n'b-sampling jams that fits perfect for the DJ set to get the crowd going. The BPMs are higher, the bass is thickly pounding and the sequencing is at times rampagingly fun! The mixing part and the drum patterns needs a little improvement, but I’m sure that we’ll see this new rising star grow into a full-fledged house master very soon.
First off we have the Summer Nights EP and as the name suggests it IS perfect for the party people. The straightforward Breeze isn’t exactly a cool summer breeze, but a nicely filtered house thrasher. The addictive Can’t You See features a pace that demands attention from your ears to follow. The lovely Do You Love Me sports perfect synchro of electro’s 80s-hinting neon disco vibes and French house’s filtered soul. In Find A Love we find a nice home-listening qualities as The Nite has made things a little more complex and interesting and less accessible and dancey. Unfortunately, Just Find Yourself is not to be found, as it was a damaged file in the rar. However, we are also offered a bonus track that makes for a splendid conclusion to an overall splendid debut EP. It features the best sample - the melody is fonky in a slanted way - and as the vocal part reaches a climax a fun and high energy drum sequence whips up the dancefloor quite a few notches. Some bonus track, huh?

Secondly, we have the mini EP entitled On And Off. This three-track pearl isn’t necessarily best suited for the dancefloor DJs but more perhaps for the lounge lions, the shorter car rides or the pre-party of toNite.

The Summer Nights EP would be great, but he really should have slowed it down. The whole thing with disco house being so great 10+ years ago was that it was much more chill than the Chicago and especially progressive house scenes. BPM didn’t matter when you had a bass guitar driving the whole track.
