It took me a while to get around to write up one of the most anticipated debuts of the year. Passion Pit’s first full-length endeavour is, contrary to popular indie belief, not a very complicated nor simple album. It’s mostly caused by the band’s tendencies to throw everything they love about indie (the three cornerstones): pop, rock and electronica/electro into a pit, stir in a naive and weirdly childish way and spice it up with a relentless passion, all the while mixing danceable rhythms and beats with catchy melodies and emotional momentums. Manners shows how the band maintain their trademark playground indie pop foundation while instantly maturing into something beyond the next big alternative fad.

What I particularly like about the album is that the melodies and harmonies that Passion Pit present to us invites for a joyful summer spree in the sun as much as they break ground for contemplation and set the mood for a nightly adventure of a dreamwavey nature. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that the album is brilliant - that would’ve placed it too close to some other albums that I regard as some of this year’s best. But Manners is a strong and very convincing debut, and if Passion Pit stay true to their current manners they surely have a bright future ahead of them. Manners is not brilliant, but it’s a brilliant among indie pop albums this year.

I think the video fits Sleepyhead, Passion Pit and the band’s general visual appearance (and especially the album cover art) very well. Well worth watching, even if you’ve listened the song to death by now ;)
