The latest band hailing from Australia that oughta arouse quite a few is Gypsy And The Cat. This relatively unknown duo is preparing to release their debut album soon - but are not yet signed! I place my bets on that Modular would be interested in picking up these Aussie brethren of theirs and make good profit of their eclective pop.
Think Van She’s brooding 80s-influenced pop go 60s-folk-for-00s-Alts. Think Oasis (generic reference, I know, but listen to the vocals and then come tell me it’s not even an apt reference) go a little more electronic and a little less anglocentric. But you’re more likely to get a picture of what this great new band is about if you download the two supreme mp3s below and head over to their myspace where they have five equally enjoyable songs from their forthcoming, yet to be titled, debut album available as low quality streams. I suspect Gypsy And The Cat may become one of 2009’s more acknowledged breakthroughs and I strongly look forward to what else the boys can come up with.

nice pick mate! both of these tracks are superb. looking forward to hearing more from them - maybe a cool remix as well. hopefully i will get a chance to see them live. and you’re right - they have that modular label sound about them.
I NEED MORE! WHERE CAN I FIND/BUY MORE?!?!
Been following these guys for a while now. LOVE em. cant wait for the LP.
That drum loop opening on Jona Vark is totally sampled from Blur’s Song 2. I thought I was listening to a corrupted Blur track at first. hahaha
haha yeah I was actually speaking to the one of the guys about that sample the other day and he said that it’s not supposed to be in there and the final version will have a few changes! I also had a listen to their album and i have to say i was blown away with all their other material… some absolute bombs on there!
Finally got around to listening to these guys and had the exact same thoughts about their sound (http://diagonallimes.blogspot.com/2009/07/friends-and-feral-felines.html), only to find that you’d already thought them. Looking forward to an album from them.
So im really bored at work and so I do a loser thing… I google my brother (lame, I know)… and read the comments and blogs about his music and then I do an even more horrific thing.. i comment it haha what a tool! im so bored. Gypsy and the Cat, dont forget the name! which reminds me.. he owes me about six years worth of birthday presents…
They are fantastic. Does anyone know how I can contact the band?
