I have to admit I haven’t listened to Mando Diao’s latest album Give Me Fire yet but since I have not been living in a cage, I have definitely heard their latest single Dance With Somebody, I even heard it on the radio in Finland when I was there last weekend. As you could guess from the title, the song is highly danceable rock that marks and defines Mando’s return or perhaps first time excursion in pure pop territories on the latest album.

It’s one hell of a song. It’s tight, got a nice fast-paced drive, an irresistible pop construction. And the best chorus of 2009. Yes, I dare say that it’s THE BEST chorus we’re gonna hear this year. Why? Because Mando Diao dared writing and playing THE chorus we and all rockbands deep inside knew existed but didn’t want to write. It’s unashamedly catchy, brilliant 60s-tinged powerpop that leaves no excuses for its loveable qualities and almost embarrasingly universal sound. I’m proud that Mando Diao took the step and wrote it. I think it has the potential to become a huge world hit. But it’s all about marketing these days and I wouldn’t want my favourite poprocking boys to fall depper into that than they already are. As long as it spin itself hot hot hot in my ipod like it has done for the past few months, I’ll glad :) So c’mon now:

I’m falling in love with your favourite song.
I’m gonna sing it all night long.
I’m gonna dance with somebody,
dance with somebody,
dance, dance, DAAANCE

For me Dance with somebody is one of the worst songs on Give me fire. But I didn’t like it even when I heared it the first time neither. For me it was a big chock, even though I know that this fifht CD was going to be a change. But the rest of Give me fire is asume so now I’m not afraid anymore :)
